Sophomore Carter Smith took first place today in the 800 meter run at the PTFCA Indoor State Championship Meet. He came into the meet seeded in third place with a time of 1:55.23. His goal was to get out fast with the two top-seeded runners and then make a break at the 500 meter mark. He executed his plan beautifully, shaving over two seconds off of his previous best time to come across the finish line for the win at 1:52.83. This time is a new school record for indoor track and field and is currently the 11th best time in the nation. Carter’s indoor track season will come to an end in two weeks, when he runs in the 2024 New Balance Nationals Indoor Track & Field Championships. At this meet, which takes place in Boston, MA, Carter will have an opportunity to compete against some of the best high school 800 meter runners in the nation.
