2022 Golf Championships Information

DEADLINE FOR ENTRY IS SEPT. 16, 2022, AT 9:00 AM.

DATES OF INDIVIDUAL SECTIONALS AND CHAMPIONSHIPS

2A Boys Sectional Individual Qualifier

  • Thursday Sept. 22, 2022, at Ebensburg Country Club at 10:00 AM.
    • Field Limited to top 72 players with maximum qualifying score of 95 or less.
    • The top 30 2A Boys and ties will advance to the District Championship.

3A Boys Sectional Individual Qualifier

  • Thursday Sept. 22, 2022, at Sinking Valley Country Club at 10:00 AM.
    • Field Limited to maximum of 8 entries per 3A school with qualifying score of 95 or less.
    • The top 10 3A Boys and ties will advance to the District Championship.

District 6 Individual Golf Championships (18 Holes)

  • 2A and 3A Boys
    • Tuesday Sept. 27, 2022, at Scotch Valley Country Club at 10:00 AM.
  • 2A Girls and 3A Girls
    • Thursday Sept. 29, 2022, Windber Country Club at 10:00 AM.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

  • Each member school may submit names of golfers that have demonstrated that they can consistently break a score of 95 for 18 holes for boys and a score of 105 for 18 holes for girls. (Schools playing 9-hole matches will have scores doubled for qualifying purposes). Coaches are responsible for the integrity of scores submitted for each golfer.
  • Tournament Director will determine from school submission of District Golf Entry Forms the top 72, 2A Boys that will qualify and participate at the Boys 2A Sectional. Schools will be notified of participants. 3A Boys are limited to maximum of 8 players with qualifying score of 95 or less.
  • Girls’ participants are not limited at this time but must have demonstrated that they can consistently break a score of 105 or less for 18 holes. Coaches are responsible for the integrity of scores submitted for each golfer.
  • District Golf Entry Form must be completed and submitted to the District 6 Golf Director by the deadline date.
  • An entry fee of $30.00 per golfer must be submitted with the PIAA District 6 Golf Entry Form by Sept. 16, 2022.
  • Each player/school MUST have a coach in attendance or athletes will not be permitted to participate.
  • Coaches will be required to serve as monitors for a playing group. Coaches will act as marshals and unofficial scorer. At the completion of play, monitors will review scorecards with all players prior to signing scorecards.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

  • USGA Rules of golf will govern all play with the exception of existing local golf course rules.
  • All play will be Medal Play.
  • All players will be seeded for play based on scoring average submitted by each school.
  • Summer rules will be in effect except for most unusual circumstances. Any changes will be determined by the Host Golf Professional and the District Golf Director.
  • Each participant will be required to keep a score card of an opponent, verify their score and an opponent’s score by signing their scorecard and the opponent’s scorecard at the conclusion of each round after review with the monitor assigned to the group.
  • If required, a play-off to determine a District Champion and the last qualifier to advance to the PIAA State
  • Tournament in each classification will be conducted immediately following conclusion of the final round. The Play-off if necessary, will begin on a hole determined by the Host Golf Professional and District 6 Golf Director and will continue on a sudden victory basis until Champion is determined or tie is broken.

ADVANCEMENT TO PIAA STATE TOURNAMENT

  • 2A Boys will advance the top (8) Individuals
  • 2A Girls will advance the top (4) Individuals
  • 3A Boys will advance the top (2) Individuals
  • 3A Girls will advance the top (1) Individual

    • The top 4 – 2A Boys Teams will advance to the District Championship.
  • 3A Boys
    • Thursday Sept. 22, 2022, at Sinking Valley Country Club at 10:00 AM.
    • The top 2 – 3A Boys Teams will advance to the District Championship.

District 6 Team Golf Championships

  • 2A Boys and 3A Boys
    • Tuesday Sept. 27, 2022, at Scotch Valley Country Club at 10:00 AM.
  • 2A Girls and 3A Girls
    • Thursday Sept. 29, 2022, at Windber Country Club at 10:00 AM.

  • Each member school may enter a Boys and Girls Team.
  • Teams may be comprised of five (5) individuals, of which the lowest four (4) shall score for Boys and the lowest three (3) shall score for Girls.
  • The players submitted by each member school must have demonstrated that they can consistently break a score of 95 for 18 holes for boys and 105 for girls. (Schools playing 9-hole matches will have scores doubled).
  • District Golf Entry Form must be completed and submitted to the District 6 Golf Director by the deadline date.

If there is a two-way tie, the players one and two from each Team will comprise the first group; players three and four from each Team will comprise the second group. If more than two teams are tied, players will be grouped by team position. (i.e., players one comprises the first group, players two comprise the second group, etc.) In all cases, groups will play a pre-determined hole(s) until the Champion has been determined.
    • For Girls: Each coach shall select three (3) players who will participate in the play-off. If there is a two-way tie, all 6 players will play the playoff together. TEAM ADVANCEMENT TO PIAA INTER-DISTRICT REGIONAL TEAM TOURNAMENT

  • 2A Boys and 2A Girls Team Champions will advance to a Regional Team Tournament with District 6, 8 & 9 Team Champions on Oct. 5, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Ebensburg Country Club. Winner advances to PIAA State Championship.
  • 3A Boys and 3A Girls Team Champions will advance to the Regional Team Tournament with District 6, 8, 9 & 10 Champions Oct. 4, 2022, at 9:00 AM at Mountain View Country Club in Boalsburg, PA. Winner advances to PIAA State Championship.

RULES AND REGULATIONS (Individual and Team Competition)

  • CONTESTANTS ATTIRE
    • All golf contestants are required to wear appropriate golf attire (i.e. school-issued golf shirt and golf slacks or golf shorts. No exceptions are permitted. T-shirts, altered apparel, jeans, and advertisements (other than one visible logo/trademark not exceeding 2¼ square inches and not exceeding 2¼ inches in any dimension on a school-issued golf shirt, golf slacks or golf shorts) will be permitted. The contestants’ school name/nickname and/or school logo are permitted on the front and/or back of the school-issued golf short and/or cap or visor. Sweaters and/or jackets are permitted when necessitated by weather conditions.
  • USE OF RANGE FINDERS
    • Players are authorized to use devices that measure or gauge distance only (range finders). If, during a stipulated round, a player uses a distance-measuring device that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect a player’s play (e.g., gradient, wind speed, temperature, etc.), the player is in breach of USGA Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional function is actually used.
  • USE OF PULL CARTS
    • Beginning with the 2015 Golf Season, the PIAA has permitted the use of NON-Motorized push or pull carts where the host facility permits.
  • CONDUCT OF PLAYERS
    • A two-stroke penalty shall be assessed for conduct unbecoming an interscholastic golfer. Such conduct shallinclude, but not be limited to, club throwing, defined as releasing a club in anger or in a manner to cause harm to any person or to a golf course; use of abusive language; willful acts which damage property or equipment of a golf course; or other unbecoming conduct, as determined by the Tournament Director.
  • RESTRICTION ON USE OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS
    • The PIAA policy and District 6 Committee prohibits the use of tobacco products by participants and non-participating team personnel, including coaches, during any Contest at any level of scholastic athletic competition.
  • COACH AND SPECTATOR RULES AND DECORUM
    • Coaches and Spectators are permitted to walk and may be permitted to ride a cart on the course no closer than ten (10) yards from the contestants during competition. Coaches and Spectators who choose to walk or who are permitted to ride the course during competition, may do so under the following restrictions:
      • IN GENERAL NO COMMUNICATION WITH COMPETITORS DURING PLAY
      • DO NOT offer comments or make suggestions to the competitors. NO COACHING!
      • DO NOT observe play closer than ten (10) yards from the group of competitors being observed.
      • DO NOT cross over or observe play from teeing areas, fairways, or putting greens. Play may be observed from cart paths or the “rough” only.
      • DO NOT move or talk when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke.
      • DO NOT attempt to decide questions of fact nor attempt to apply the Rules of Golf.
      • DO NOT make comments about any of the competitors.
